WASHINGTON — Arizona lawmakers are urging congressional leaders to prioritize emergency funding for high-speed internet access in upcoming COVID-19 relief legislation.

Democratic U.S. Sen. Kyrsten Sinema and two dozen other lawmakers sent a letter this week asking Democratic and Republican leaders of the U.S. House and Senate to set aside funding for a temporary emergency relief fund at the Federal Communications Commission that would help small broadband providers continue service for students and low-income families.

CASA GRANDE — Even though most of Congress is not in the Capitol, its members are still working, said Rep. Tom O’Halleran.

O’Halleran, D-Sedona, represents Arizona’s 1st Congressional District, which includes most of Pinal County. He said he’s taking about eight to nine calls a day from other Congress members, constituents and local officials.

Congress has already passed three bills that have been signed by President Donald Trump in an effort to get more supplies and funds flowing to medical providers and financial relief to individuals and businesses.

WASHINGTON—Today, Congressman Tom O’Halleran (AZ-01) voted to pass H.R. 748, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, the third in a series of stimulus packages to address the spread of the coronavirus and the resulting negative effects on the American economy. The bill encompasses $2 trillion in supplemental funding for hospitals and health care facilities, nutrition assistance, unemployment, small business loans, and dedicated tribal funding, and sends direct payments to eligible Americans.
