VILLAGE OF OAK CREEK—Today, Grand Canyon National Park Acting Superintendent Mary Risser, with the support of the National Parks Service Deputy Director David Vela and Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt, heeded the advice of Congressman Tom O’Halleran (AZ-01) and announced Grand Canyon National Park would close until further notice to help slow the spread of the coronavirus.

“While I am committed to protecting our public lands and ensuring that they are accessible to all Americans, the health and safety of my constituents is my top priority, and I believe that this is the correct course of action,” said O’Halleran following the news. “I am glad Secretary Bernhardt and National Park Service leadership heeded the calls of myself and others concerned for the health of Arizona families and acted to temporarily close the park.”
