O’Halleran responds to proposed tariff increases
VILLAGE OF OAK CREEK – Congressman Tom O’Halleran (AZ-01) released the following statement Monday on the administration’s recent announcement of higher tariffs on goods.
“International trade is critical for Arizona. Our businesses export more than $20 billion in goods every year, and this trade supports tens of thousands of good-paying jobs. When we start trade wars and unilaterally pull out of trade deals with our partners, the American people pay in higher costs at the grocery store. Unfortunately, this administration has chosen to double down on tariffs that will hurt our farmers and ranchers, consumers, and business owners.
“Estimates show that the decision to increase tariffs from 10 to 25 percent will cost nearly one million American jobs, and tariffs imposed last year cost the American people $1.4 billion a month. The American people should not be on the hook for the rising costs caused by these tariffs. We need to focus on negotiating fair trade deals with our international partners that actually benefit the American people.”
Congressman Tom O’Halleran represents Arizona’s Congressional District 1, which covers all of Graham and Greenlee counties.
