BREAKING: House Passes Bipartisan Legislation to End Bad Robocalls
WASHINGTON—Today, Congressman Tom O’Halleran voted to pass the Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrent (TRACED) Act, bipartisan legislation that cracks down on bad robocalls and scam calls.
“I, like so many Americans, receive countless robocalls every single week, often from spoofed numbers that appear to be dialing from just down the road” said Rep. O’Halleran. “Not only are these calls frustrating, but many are scams designed to prey on seniors and vulnerable populations.”
The TRACED Act requires voice service providers to develop call authentication technologies, creates real penalties for dialers, and holds the FCC accountable by requiring them to enforce these policies and do their part to protect American families.
“We cannot stand by while robocallers scam Americans out of out their hard-earned dollars and private information,” continued O’Halleran. “I was proud to cosponsor the TRACED Act and to work with a bipartisan group on the House Energy and Commerce Committee to mark up the bill and bring it to the House floor for today’s vote.”
The TRACED Act passed out of the House of Representatives this afternoon with broad, bipartisan support.
