O’Halleran Applauds HHS Grants to Arizona Community Health Centers to Support Coronavirus Response Operations
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Tom O’Halleran (AZ-01) applauded over $400,000 in recent grants from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to community health centers across Arizona’s First Congressional District to address the spread of the coronavirus and assist in response efforts.
“Arizona community health centers already serve hundreds of thousands of patients every year. Currently, they are being stretched thin as health care providers work tirelessly to provide care and resources during this growing public health crisis,” said O’Halleran. “We must make sure we are prioritizing any and all available funding for community health centers as we work to address the spread of the coronavirus.”
HHS funding awarded will give community health centers the flexibility to meet evolving COVID-19 needs by expanding screening and testing capacity, purchasing supplies such as personal protective equipment (PPE), increasing availability of telehealth services, and providing safety education. Supplemental funding grants were awarded to Canyonlands Community Health Care, North Country Healthcare, Tuba City Regional Healthcare Corporation, Sun Life Family Health Center, and Marana Health Center to help alleviate the stress of the coronavirus epidemic.
“These grants will allow community health centers to continue to deliver quality primary health care services to their patients while responding to developing needs in their communities,” continued O’Halleran. “I am pleased to see much-needed funding going to hardworking community health center doctors, nurses and staff who are on the frontlines of this epidemic, working around the clock to keep Arizonans—especially those in rural and underserved communities—safe and healthy.”
This Congress, O’Halleran re-introduced his legislation to ensure community health centers across the nation are fully funded.
