O’Halleran Bill to Take Tribal Lands into Trust Passes House of Representatives
WASHINGTON— Yesterday, the House of Representatives voted to pass H.R. 3160, the Blackwater Trading Post Land Transfer Act, bipartisan legislation introduced by Congressman Tom O’Halleran (AZ-01) that will bring the Blackwater Trading Post—which the Gila River Indian community owns—into trust status.
“As Members of Congress, we are able to restore tribal homelands and it is our duty to help uphold tribal sovereignty. I was honored to do so yesterday,” said Rep. O’Halleran. “The Gila River Indian Community has worked hard to acquire this land, and passing this bill is a celebration of that effort and the hard work of many on the ground in Arizona.”
