O’HALLERAN STATEMENT ON IMPACTS OF TRADE WAR ON RURAL ARIZONA
SEDONA, AZ - Today, Congressman Tom O’Halleran (AZ-01) issued the following statement regarding NAFTA and growing fears of a trade war:
“Today’s sliding stocks highlight the dangers of reckless Washington politics on the livelihoods of American workers and families. A trade war would cause serious harm to Arizona’s economy, including our agriculture and defense communities, while raising costs for working families and hurting their retirement and education savings. Rural Arizona cannot afford to risk lost jobs and higher consumer costs.
“Our trade agreements are not just obligations, but opportunities for our nation to lead and make progress for American jobs while improving conditions around the world. NAFTA, other trade agreements, and our overall trade policies must first and foremost address the needs of American workers, not undermine them. The Administration must work with Congress on long-term solutions for communities we represent. Governing by manufactured crises is hurting the people we are supposed to be helping, regardless of party. Our businesses, farmers, and families need certainty and support - the only way to achieve those goals is for the President and Congress to put their partisan games aside and get to work.”
