O’Halleran Statement on Resignation of EPA Administrator
WASHINGTON—Today, following the announcement of Scott Pruitt’s resignation from his position as Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, Congressman Tom O’Halleran (AZ-01) released the following statement.
“I am pleased that Mr. Pruitt has stepped down from an appointed position he has used to waste taxpayer money and continually betray the trust of the American people, ignoring completely the EPA’s aim to preserve our environment and natural resources,” said Rep. O’Halleran. “Public service is a public trust. Abusing that trust, alongside thousands of taxpayer dollars, is a gross violation of the mission of the EPA, and any federal agency. Scott Pruitt’s resignation is long overdue, after having exploited his office and power for personal gain while retaliating against whistleblowers time and time again.”
Rep. O’Halleran has repeatedly called for the resignation or firing of Mr. Pruitt after multiple reports of his unethical behavior surfaced over the past months. Allegations include spending millions in tax dollars on first-class and chartered flights, demoting EPA employees who disagreed with his actions, using his taxpayer funded security detail on private trips, spending $43,000 on a soundproof phonebooth, and leveraging his political connections to attempt to secure a six-figure salary job for his wife. Currently there are thirteen different federal investigations open into Mr. Pruitt’s corrupt tenure as EPA Administrator.
“Regardless of party, no one is above the law, and the American people deserve public servants that hold themselves to a high standard,” continued O’Halleran. “Our democracy is only as strong as the accountability we demand from those at every level of government.”
