O’Halleran Statement on Trump-Kim Agreement
WASHINGTON — Today, Congressman Tom O’Halleran (AZ-01) released the following statement regarding the agreement signed by President Trump and North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un.
“Achieving lasting peace and a complete and permanent denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula is a priority for America. Efforts to achieve this through the full force of American diplomacy, strength, and leadership should be respected.
“While details continue to emerge from the summit, I am extremely concerned about the major concessions that were made to the North Korea leader during this meeting. We should not give in to any demands without a clear, detailed plan on how Mr. Kim would denuclearize his country and comply with international rules, nor should we take any approach that undermines our own military’s expertise and might. An agreement that does not result in a verifiable, irreversible plan to denuclearize cannot be acceptable to America or our allies. We cannot forget that the North Korean regime has a long history of defying the United States and our allies around the world. The regime has threatened our people while maintaining a brutal, repressive rule and causing untold suffering and death for their own people.”
