O’Halleran Urges Prioritization of Working Families in New Legislative Package to Address Negative Effects of Coronavirus
VILLAGE OF OAK CREEK—With federal lawmakers currently in talks to put together a third legislative package to help slow the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) and better address the toll these necessary measures will inevitably take on American families, Congressman Tom O’Halleran (AZ-01) issued the following statement:
“As we work to craft a new legislative package to address this public health crisis and the economic fallout, we must keep our focus on supporting working- and middle-class families who will bear the brunt of the necessary quarantine and social distancing measures we are taking to keep all Americans safe and healthy.
“Arizona families I talk to are already experiencing layoffs, are struggling to pay their mortgages and put food on the table.
“I am concerned about special interests in Washington lining up and asking for handouts right now. While many of our large companies and corporations are vital to our economy, we must make sure we are putting working families first.
“Small businesses are doing the best they can to cope with new guidelines and protect the safety of their employees and must be considered when putting together this next important package as well.
“I am working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle—as well as state and local elected leaders and public health officials—to ensure that this next bill provides relief for Arizona families.”
This month, the House and Senate passed two major legislative packages—both signed into law by President Trump—to increase funding for vaccine research, public health agencies, and necessary resources, and another to expand free COVID-19 testing, paid sick leave, and nutrition assistance.
