O'Halleran Applauds Investment in Tribal Communities
SEDONA - Today, Congressman Tom O’Halleran (AZ-01) announced more than $127 million in Indian Housing Block Grants (IHBG) for Native American tribes and nations in Arizona.
“These resources are a critical factor for tribal communities seeking to construct safe, affordable housing. I applaud this investment in communities that need these resources,” said Rep. O’Halleran. “Not only will these grant funds give more families a place to call home, it will spur economic growth that will reverberate throughout the state of Arizona.”
The Indian Housing Block Grant Program (IHBG) is a formula grant that provides a range of affordable housing activities on Indian reservations and Indian areas. The Department of Housing and Urban Development released the IHBG amounts earlier this week. The block grant approach to housing for Native Americans was enabled by the Native American Housing Assistance and Self Determination Act of 1996 (NAHASDA).
