Press Release

WASHINGTON – Last night, Congressman Tom O’Halleran (AZ-01) was selected to serve as a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, the oldest continuous standing committee in the U.S. House of Representatives. The committee was established to regulate interstate and foreign commerce, and it has the broadest jurisdiction of any authorizing committee in Congress.

“Arizona’s First Congressional District is one of the most rural districts in the country. For too long, the needs of this district, and those of rural areas across the country, have been largely forgotten. I have made it my goal to give these Americans a seat at the table, and I look forward to doing so as a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee,” said O’Halleran.

The Energy and Commerce Committee covers a variety of issues, including:

  • Health care and insurance
  • Environment
  • Energy
  • Telecommunications
  • Commerce
  • Consumer protection and product safety.

“We have an opportunity and a responsibility in this Congress to address long-standing issues, such as investing in rural broadband deployment and economic growth, improving access to affordable, quality health care, and funding agencies that are tasked with cleaning up abandoned uranium mines and protecting our precious water resources,” continued O’Halleran. “I am ready to work with my colleagues on the Committee to pass bipartisan legislation that improves the lives of hardworking Americans.”

“I’m pleased to welcome Rep. O’Halleran to the Energy and Commerce Committee where he will play a crucial role in ensuring all Americans have access to affordable and quality health care, safe drinking water, high-speed internet and a cleaner environment,” said Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ).  “As a strong advocate for advancing policies that strengthen our economy, Rep. O’Halleran’s voice will be critical in pushing forward on a comprehensive infrastructure package that will create more good-paying jobs across the nation. I congratulate him on this well-deserved appointment and look forward to working with him.”

O’Halleran is also the Co-Chair for Policy in the House Blue Dog Coalition. He previously served on the Agriculture and Armed Services Committees.
