WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Tom O’Halleran called on Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt to step down from a position he has used to bilk taxpayers out of millions of dollars during his fourteen-month tenure.

“I am confused how a $43,000 soundproof phone booth, a customized SUV with bullet-resistant seats, or millions of dollars’ worth of first-class and chartered flights benefit the American people or protect our precious land and water resources,” said Rep. O’Halleran. “It is obvious that Mr. Pruitt has lost the confidence of the people to whom he reports, and he should resign.”

Reports show that Pruitt spent nearly $3 million on an unprecedented full-time security detail, more than $100,000 on first-class flights, $43,000 on a soundproof phone booth, thousands of dollars on an ornate office desk comparable to the President’s Resolute desk, and allowed his closest aides to give themselves unauthorized pay raises, among other things.

“It seems Mr. Pruitt, along with many others within the Administration, does not understand the ‘public’ part of ‘public servant’,” continued O’Halleran. “We are here to serve the public, not to benefit from their hard-earned tax dollars and enrich our friends.”
