WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Tom O’Halleran (AZ-01) introduced the Diné College Act with Congresswoman Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01) to provide funding to improve higher education opportunities for the Navajo people.

“Investing in tribal education opportunities has a positive economic impact across Indian Country and our entire region,” said Rep. O’Halleran. “Providing these critical resources to Diné College will improve the quality of education for students and position graduates for a successful future in jobs throughout the country.”

“I am honored to support legislation that upholds the federal government’s treaty obligations to ensure that the Navajo Nation has the resources it needs to promote the economic, educational, and social well-being of their people,” said Rep. Lujan Grisham.

Navajo Nation President Russell Begaye stated, “this is a great step forward for Diné College and the Navajo people’s educational opportunities. Diné College is a pioneer in higher education. We thank Representative O'Halleran for his leadership on this issue. We urge Congress to advance this bill quickly and help to build this pioneering institution of higher education.”

The Diné College Act allocates $7.5 million in funding to Dine College for capital improvement projects and operational funding.
