O'Halleran Statement on the Omnibus Appropriations Act
WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congressman Tom O’Halleran (AZ-01) applauded a bipartisan spending bill that prioritizes rural America, strengthens our national defense, and improves background checks for legal gun purchases, among other things.
“Congressional leaders did something no one expected. They worked together to create a bipartisan funding bill that focuses on the needs of our communities. This funding bill will make our communities safer and invest in the future of our nation. It is a step in the right direction.
“I am also proud of the work we did to secure more than $3 billion to combat deadly wildfires and end fire-borrowing and $23.3 billion to agriculture programs that directly impact Arizona’s farmers and ranchers and make our rural communities a vibrant place to raise the next generation of Arizonans. ”
The spending bill funds priorities that Arizona communities and counties have requested and have been championed by Rep. O’Halleran, including:
Rural and tribal infrastructure projects.
National Park maintenance.
Community Development Block Grants.
Veterans health care.
Tribal school repairs and construction.
Gun safety measures, including improving background checks and research into gun violence.
“Congress must prioritize the needs of American families and businesses,” continued O’Halleran. “This includes focusing on economic development in rural and tribal communities and infrastructure investments to repair our crumbling roads and bridges and deploy reliable broadband in rural areas of the country.”
