O'Halleran Statement on Passage of House Farm Bill
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, following passage of the 2018 Farm Bill, Congressman Tom O’Halleran (AZ-01), Chair of the Blue Dog Special Task Force on Rural America, released the following statement confirming his continued opposition to the flawed legislation.
“From the outset of this process, this Farm Bill has been a failure for rural America, hardworking families, and our ag community. You cannot write a bill this important to our nation in a backroom without input from the American people. Our farmers and ranchers deserve a Farm Bill drafted in the long-held, bipartisan spirit of the House Committee on Agriculture. This legislation simply doesn’t make the commitment to our rural communities that we need now. Hardworking Americans deserve meaningful investment in their farms, ranches, and communities—not the cuts proposed in this bill.
“Our efforts must promote our farmers and ranchers, support our rural communities working to rebuild their economy, and protect forestry and conservation programs that are essential for rural America. This partisan attempt at a Farm Bill will devastate rural areas and take food out of the mouths of Arizona children and veterans. We need a truly bipartisan Farm Bill that invests in rural communities and supports our farmers and ranchers.
