Press Release

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Tom O’Halleran (AZ-01) released the following statement on the ongoing communications between high-level Trump administration and campaign staff with the Russian government:

“The recent revelations that senior Trump administration and campaign officials had contact with the Russian government are deeply troubling and cannot be ignored. The American people deserve answers,” said Rep. O’Halleran. “I join my colleagues in calling for an independent and transparent investigation into the nature of the relationships between President Trump’s team and Russian officials and the risk these communications present to our national security.”

The revelation that senior Trump administration and campaign staff communicated regularly with Russian officials followed news that former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn discussed sanctions with the Russian ambassador to the United States before Donald Trump was sworn in. Flynn resigned his position on Monday night.

“As a police officer and elected official in the Arizona Legislature and Congress, I took the same oath as President Trump to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States,” continued Rep. O’Halleran. “Congress must fulfill its oversight duties. I call on President Trump and his staff to fully cooperate with ongoing and any future investigations of this serious national security matter.”
