Calls for Bipartisan Budget, Investment in Future of Country

Washington, DC – Congressman Tom O’Halleran (AZ-01) released the subsequent statement following the release of President Donald Trump’s FY2018 Budget proposal:

“As it stands, the president’s budget proposal would devastate rural communities and negatively impact families across Arizona. Critical domestic programs for working families are on the chopping block,” said Rep. O’Halleran. “Cuts to nutrition assistance programs, community development grants, and counterterrorism funding are irresponsible and shortsighted.”

In the plan, 19 federal agencies, including Departments of Agriculture, Interior, and Transportation, face deep cuts. Included in funding reductions are programs such as:

  • Women, Infants, and Children nutrition assistance
  • After-school and summer programs and grants for teacher training
  • National Institutes of Health research programs
  • State and local pre-disaster mitigation grants and counterterrorism funding
  • Corporation for Public Broadcasting
  • Water and Wastewater loans and grants
  • Community development grants
  • Infrastructure grants

“Congress should get to work on a serious bipartisan budget that invests in the future of our country. We must work together to move forward,” continued O’Halleran.
