Rep O’Halleran: Tax Reform Should Not Saddle our Children with Debt
As the Senate continues to debate the tax reform proposal, Rep. Tom O’Halleran released the following statement:
“It is irresponsible for Congress to consider passing a tax reform package that saddles our children and grandchildren with trillions of dollars in debt. Unfortunately, that is exactly what Congressional leaders are trying to do before the end of the year. If Congress passes this legislation, we will be delivering massive tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans and multinational corporations while sending our national debt skyrocketing by nearly $2 trillion. That means the next generation will pay more, and we will not be able to keep our promises to our seniors and veterans.
“By passing the proposed tax reform package, Congress will also place the tax burden on state and local governments. In order to fund critical infrastructure projects and provide quality education for our children in the future, state and local governments will be forced to increase taxes on families and businesses.
“We can do better. I urge Congressional leaders from both sides of the aisle to put aside partisan politics and work together to pass a tax reform bill that brings real relief to our families and small business owners and does not increase our federal debt.”
