Rep. O'Halleran Statement on Review of Mining Ban in Grand Canyon

Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Tom O’Halleran (AZ-01), whose Congressional District includes much of the Grand Canyon National Park, released a statement following reports that President Donald Trump’s Administration would reconsider a ban on uranium mining within the Grand Canyon:

“The ban on uranium mining in the watershed of the Grand Canyon has improved water and land quality within tribal communities and throughout Arizona. The thought of reversing that ban and opening the area up to uranium mining is indefensible. Calling this a step back is an understatement. The Administration should be focused on cleaning up the hundreds of uranium mines still contaminating northern Arizona communities. The Grand Canyon, and all our public lands, are national treasures, and we must treat them as such. I urge President Trump to retain this rule and protect our beautiful natural lands.”
