Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Tom O’Halleran signed a bipartisan letter urging the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Attorney General, and the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation to address the rising number of threats leveled at Jewish Community Centers (JCCs) across the country.

“The recent anti-Semitic attacks on our Jewish community, from cemetery vandalism to community center bomb threats, are deeply troubling and have no place in our country,” said Rep. O’Halleran. “I joined this bipartisan letter because we must take a stand against religious persecution in our country. We are a nation that welcomes diversity, and no one should live in fear because of their faith.”

The letter, authored by Reps. Stephanie Murphy and Joseph Crowley and signed by over 150 Democratic and Republican lawmakers, is in response to the threats in 26 states targeting JCCs. According to the JCC Association of North America, there have been more than 68 incidents targeting 53 JCCs in the first two months of 2017.
